Dogs are only permitted in the historic ranch area and must be on leash.

The park overlooks the Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay from the east-facing slopes of 1,558 foot Mount Burdell.

The Coast Miwok inhabited at least one site within the area of the present-day park continuously from as early as 6,000 BC, until the early 1850s.  Olompali contains "kitchen rock," a large boulder used as a mortar in which early people ground acorns and seeds.

Olompali is also home to the historic Burdell ranch and dairy.  The remains of the Burdell mansion, severely damaged by fire in 1969, remain standing as part of a capsule to preserve the historic adobe home of Camilo Ynitia.  Ynitia, a member of the Coast Miwok, was one of just several native people granted title to their land by the Mexican government prior to the territory becoming part of the United States.
