The park is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. Summer hours (June 1 through August 31): 8:00am to 5:30pm Winter hours (September 1 through May 31): 9:00am to 4:00pm.

The park collects a Living History fee of $3 for adults, $2 for 6-12 year olds with children under 6 years age free. The park collects a $5 person event fee for anyone over 6 years of age during major events which include the June 8-9 Santa Fe Trail Encampment, September 15 Hispanic Heritage Day, October 20 Native American Heritage Day, and the December 7-8 Tradtional Holiday Celebration. This will be in lieu of the regular $3 fee. Fees are collected at the fort.

Entrance fee is $3.00.

The fee allows visitors to experience the fort and its rooms and meet and visit with period-clothed interpreters. It is a per person charge. The park is accessed via U.S. Highway 50 and Highway 194. From La Junta, Colorado on U.S. Highway 50, take Colorado Highway 109 north 1 mile to Colorado Highway 194, then east on Colorado Highway 194 six miles to the fort. From Las Animas, Colorado, on U.S. Highway 50, take Colorado Highway 194 west 13 miles. Set your GPS to 35110 State Highway 194 E., La Junta, CO.

Summer temperatures are are often in the high 90s and low 100s. Weather is generally fair in the fall and spring. Winter temperatures can be below freezing. Most of the fort is unheated and does not have modern cooling systems, so dress accordingly.
