At the northernmost tip of the sand barrier stands the Cape Poge Lighthouse, 3.5 miles from the nearest road. First erected in 1801, the lighthouse helped guide ships through the shoalwaters and shallows of Muskeget Channel, and into Edgartown Harbor. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1844 and again in 1893. This lighthouse still stands but has been moved four times, most recently by helicopter in 1987. The Cape Poge light flashes a brilliant white 63 feet above the sand dunes and can be seen by sailors nine miles out to sea.

Starting at the Dike Bridge, walk north along Leland Beach and keep going until you see it.

(OSV trails that can be walked in. Soft sand, moderate to difficult walking.) There is also an overlook trail from the lighthouse to the site of where the lighthouse previously stood. Easy walking along grassy trail to overlook of ocean.
