Beneath a grassy mountain valley in central Colorado lies one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of detailed fossils of insects and plants reveal the story of a very different, prehistoric Colorado.
Physical/Mobility
The visitor center, including the theater, and associated outdoor exhibit area are fully wheelchair accessible. The Ponderosa Loop Trail, a self-guided 1/2 mile trail, is also fully accessible, although the trail may be covered by snow in the winter.
The Monument has a non-motorized wheelchair with large, inflatable tires that can be requested and borrowed for daily use.
Deaf/Hearing Loss
The Monument's 15 minute orientation film, which is shown in the visitors center's theater, has subtitles.
Blind/Low Vision
The park film, "Shadows of the Past" and the visitor center exhibits are accessible through Audio Description. Please ask at the front desk for the audio description headsets and instructions.

Visitors traveling north/south on I-25: Exit at US 24 West, travel 35 miles to town of Florissant, then follow signs two miles south on Teller County Road 1 to the Visitor Center. Visitors traveling from town of Cripple Creek: Follow Teller County Road 1 north for 16 miles.
