The Slater Preserve on Chappaquiddick is a pleasant, shady, meandering ramble about a half-mile long. The yellow trail winds through oak woodlands, with pockets of scrub oak, American beech, and sassafras trees.  The blue trail runs parallel to the road, connecting the two ends of the yellow trail.

There is a bench in the beech grove, a few minutes walk from the eastern trailhead, amidst an understory of huckleberry, hazelnut, and blueberry.

The Slater Preserve is accessed from two trailheads along Chappaquiddick Road, halfway between the Chappy ferry and the Chappaquiddick Community Center. There is no parking adjacent to the preserve; the nearest parking is at the Community Center, about a mile to the east.
