Flying M Ranch and associated properties are not open to the public at this time. Planned phases to improve this historic and scenic point of historical interest are in the works by Nevada Division of State Parks.
The state park, Walker River State Recreation Area, includes five units: the Pitchfork Ranch, Rafter 7 Ranch, Flying M Ranch, Nine Mile Ranch, and The Elbow. Currently only designated areas at The Pitchfork Ranch, The Elbow, and the east side of the river at Rafter 7 are open to the public for a wide variety of recreational use. Walker River State Recreation Area offers opportunities for people to enjoy camping, cabin rentals, visitor center, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, disc golf (soon to open), bird watching, horseback riding.
The Pitchfork Ranch serves as the park headquarters and offers 2 campgrounds and a Visitors Center. The Elbow section of Walker River State Recreation Area is open for camping and exploration. The east side of Rafter 7 is open for day use visitation only. Other park units are planned to become open to the public over time as development and infrastructure is completed. Announcements will be made as phased development is completed.
