Yellow Creek Park is a 76-acre gorge area where visitors can enjoy four challenging hiking trails, picnic facilities, tennis, horseshoe, and basketball courts, playground, and a rentable lodge and pavilion.
When creek levels are low, the historic Hopewell Furnace is accessible by trail. Built in 1802 by Daniel and James Eaton (Heaton), it was the first blast furnace in Ohio and the first west of the Allegheny Mountains. It remained in operation until 1808. Archaeological and metallurgical findings suggest that it is the earliest blast furnace in North America to have used a combination of bituminous coal and charcoal for fuel in iron making.
