HAWAIʻI ISLAND DIVISION OF FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE GAME BIRD CROP COLLECTION ANNOUNCEMENT
HILO -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will be collecting crop samples from birds harvested on Hawaiʻi Island during the 2024-2025 game bird hunting season. The crop is part of the bird’s digestive system, where food is stored before digestion.
The sampling aims to understand what game birds are eating in public hunting areas on Hawaiʻi Island to guide management efforts better.
Providing samples to DOFAW is optional. If you are interested in participating, please see the instructional flyer posted at the hunter check station or here in the LINK. For questions, please contact the DOFAW Hilo office at (808) 974-4221.
