In early February 2021, a 10-person crew of volunteers from Americorps' National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) spent seven days working to improve trails in the HBRA. The crew constructed "rolling dips" to divert stormwater runoff and prevent erosion on Trail 1 near the Mt. Pisgah Summit and on lower Trail 7 near the North Trailhead.
The crew also installed temporary educational signage and planted 900 native plant seedlings on unsanctioned trails adjacent to upper Trail 1 to prevent habitat degradation and unauthorized trail-blazing.
The crew's hard work is part of an ongoing effort to improve and maintain the 25-mile trail system within the HBRA.
