November 3, 2018- Ridge Trail Day is the Ridge Trail Council’s largest event, with hundreds of volunteers participating around the region. We partner with REI Co-op and local land managers to host a myriad of volunteer trail work parties to build and improve sections of the Ridge Trail. Build trail and friendships along the Ridge!
11th annual Ridge Trail Day Sites 2018:
San Francisco – UCSF Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve: Join Sutro Stewards in celebration of Ridge Trail Day! We will devote our morning to trail work, improving tread and realigning a section of the Fairy Gates Trail on Mount Sutro. Ages 13 and older are welcome to participate, volunteers under the age of 17 should be accompanied by an adult. Project hours 8:45 AM-1:30 PM.
San Francisco – Oak Woodlands of Golden Gate Park: Team up with San Francisco Recreation & Parks to restore trailside habitats in the Oak Woodlands of Golden Gate Park for brush and invasive plant removal, planting prep and planting in an area next to the renovated trail, which is planned to become a portion of the Ridge Trail in the SF Re-Route. Ages 18 and up. Project hours 9:00 AM-12:00 PM.
Fairfax – White Hill Open Space: Join Marin County Parks for trail maintenance on the White Hill and Porcupine trails, you will have the opportunity to build drainage features, repair eroded tread, and brush the trail corridor. This work is recommended for people 9 and older with a moderate to high level of fitness due to use of hand tools that require a fair amount of stamina and working on uneven terrain. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Project hours 8:45 AM-12:30 PM.
Petaluma – Helen Putnam Regional Park: Join Sonoma County Regional Parks for a day of trail grooming and light gravel work! Ages 14 and up are welcome to participate with an adult; those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Project hours: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
Santa Rosa – North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park: Join the Sonoma County Trails Council and Sonoma County Regional Parks to remove sloughing and berms and cut back plan intrusions along a newer section of Ridge Trail! All ages are welcome to attend but volunteers must be able to hike several miles with tools. Volunteers under 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the liability waiver in the morning. Project hours: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Napa – Skyline Wilderness Park: Team up with Skyline Wilderness Park Association for a day of trail maintenance along the Ridge Trail in this popular park. Ages 14 and up are welcome to participate with adult supervision. Project Hours: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
American Canyon – Newell Open Space Preserve: Volunteers will join the City of American Canyon and Solano Land Trust for a Seasonal Wetland Restoration Project. Activities will include installing a fence around a mitigation pond to restrict cattle access in order to restore the functionality of a Seasonal Wetland for California Red-legged Frog habitat. *Please Note: volunteers will have the opportunity to work with barbed wire if they are inclined. All ages are welcome, volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Project hours: 9:00 AM-1:00 PM.
Martinez – Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline: Join East Bay Regional Park District for tread and drainage improvements along the Ridge Trail route through the Carquinez Regional Shoreline. Ages 10 and up are welcome to participate, volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Project Hours: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
Oakland – Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve: Join East Bay Municipal Utility District for a day of broom pulling and tread maintenance along the Skyline Trail. Ages 14 and up are welcome to participate, volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Project Hours: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
San Jose – Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve: Join the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority for a day of Ridge Trail maintenance to help repair erosion and increase visitor enjoyment and safety of the trails. Work areas may include: the Boccardo Loop, Kestrel, Sierra Vista, and Aquila Trails within Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve. Ages 14 and up are welcome to participate with a parent/legal guardian present and participating in the project. Project hours: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM.
San Jose – Alum Rock Park: Help City of San Jose improve the Todd Quick trail within Alum Rock Park. Ages 16 and older are welcome to participate, volunteers under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present at start to sign waivers. Project hours: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
San Jose – Selma Olinder Park: Help City of San Jose enhance the urban Coyote Creek Trail through trail maintenance and landscaping work. All ages are welcome to participate, minors under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Project hours: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM.
Saratoga – Sanborn County Park: Help Santa Clara County Parks remove non-native and invasive plants from along the Ridge Trail route through this beautiful park! All ages are welcome to participate, minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Project hours: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Sign up for this site HERE.
Redwood Park – Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve: Join Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and the Trail Center to improve tread and do drainage maintenance along the Craig Britton Trail and Harkins Ridge Trail. Ages 14 and up are welcome to participate, volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Project hours are 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
