A big thank you goes to the City of Bloomington Parks and Rec for partnering with MC-IRIS members to bring the very first MC-IRIS Native Plant Sale to experienced and new native plant gardeners in our region! I especially want to thank Joanna Sparks, City Landscaper, for her enthusiasm and help in providing a stellar location for our sale -- The Switchyard Park Maintenance Building. In addition to a great facility to house our event, The Switchyard Park is an amazing world class recreation area with incredible native landscaped beds and features. Not only can visitors to the park see pollinators and birds partaking in their life cycles at native plant stations, they can also learn the names of the natives planted and how they are grouped in these designs. Marie Becker, Working Foreperson - Urban Green Space, has created aSwitchyard Park Field Guide which documents the native plants used for all of us to enjoy and reference. In addition to being an excellent opportunity to help gardeners view successful and beautiful examples of native plant palettes, the field guide is a perfect springboard for our event. Now is the time to share and post details about the Sept 11 sale taking place at The Switchyard Park Maintenance Building in all ways possible: in every social media post you are connected with, in letters to the editor, to every neighborhood, church or book club group and in every nook and cranny way of outreaching. We have the plants, the location, the amazing field guide and an upsurge of interest in native plant gardening to move the dial towards more native plants in our yards and more native plant fluency. To that effect-- Please use the following link to share, to copy bits from, to do whatever you like to bring attention to our sale, to the field guide, to native plants, and to The Switchyard Park as a Midwest destination to view incredible native plantings.
