Pocket Naturalist-OuterSpatial Outing: On this Docent Naturalist-led outing, you’ll discover some of the unique characteristics of Pulgas Ridge Preserve.  On this moderate, 2.5-mile hike, you will follow along the Cordilleras, Polly Geraci, Dick Bishop and Blue Oak Trails.

This preserve is home to often-overlooked native plants – including blue oaks and a delicate spring wildflower, the fetid adder’s tongue. Although often obscured by poison oak foliage and other underbrush, a large number of San Francisco dusky-footed woodrat nests are found here. Pulgas Ridge Preserve also has a unique human history - it housed a treatment center for tuberculosis patients for nearly 50 years. If you look closely, you can find remnants of the buildings today.
