Take a trip back in time through the eyes of a Refuge biologist. There are six waypoints your family will visit along an easy walking trail. At each waypoint, you'll read a journal entry that ends with a question. The answer to the question can be found in the photo gallery for that waypoint. BONUS: There's a clue below each question with the number of words and letters in the answer.

Along the way, get amazing views of nature (and trains) from high above on the Refuge's beautiful footbridge. Get close to nature down below along the edge of the Refuge's many wetlands.

PRO TIP: Bring some binoculars and be on the lookout for all kinds of wildlife, including ducks, raptors, deer, and river otter. Check ahead on the Refuge's website to see if the Cathlapotle Plankhouse is open.

• Features: Footbridge over train tracks (frequent trains the kids will love to watch from above), easy walking trail, full size representation of a Native American Plankhouse, close to food and playground in downtown Ridgefield
• Potty Break: Restrooms are available in the parking lot near the pedestrian bridge
• Parking: A large parking lot is connected to the start of the trail. There is a $3 fee for entry to the Refuge, which supports visitor programs.
