The dance floor was once a gathering spot for folks as they spent a sunny summer day and a cool summer evening in the Argonne Forest Park. After visiting the shooting arcade and other "mid-way" type games, playing a game of baseball and going for a swim in the pool, you could come up to the dance floor for a relaxing game of shuffleboard, a dance or two, and a picnic.
For many years the concrete floor slumbered beneath a thick layer of decaying leaves and other forest floor plants. Then in 1996, MetroParks staff "rediscovered" it...and clearer it., hoping to preserve this small piece of local history.
