The Bears Den Area of Mill Creek Park is known for its eastern hemlock gorge, massive free-standing sandstone boulders, and Bear Creek. Historically, the area was used for picnicking and camping, and was home to the Bears Den Stone Quarry. Many structures throughout the park were constructed with sandstone from this area including Bears Den Cabin which was completed in 1931 and intentionally located to overlook the hemlock and sandstone gorge to the north. Rappelling, climbing and bouldering are permitted in this area.
