Interested in bringing a community group or school field trip to the Refuge? The Environmental Education Shelter makes a great base camp for these types of gatherings. The shelter has several picnic tables, two sinks for those messy science projects, and the last restrooms before you head out on the River Trail. There are also a couple of built-in educational opportunities in the shelter: A living wall and a wildlife track-making station. Call the Refuge at 503-625-5944 to ask about field trips.
If the shelter is not in use by a group, you're welcome to enjoy your picnic lunch here. Just make sure you don't leave anything out for the wildlife to get into.
