The Mill Creek Furnace was the first blast furnace built in Youngstown (1820s/1830s) by the Heaton (Eaton) family. It produced about 3-4 tons of iron daily. In 2003, John R. White, Department of Sociology and Anthropology at YSU, led an archaeological dig at the site.
