Mt. Hood Skibowl provides year-round recreation opportunities: skiing/snow-boarding and tubing in the winter, and alpine slides, batting cages and other activities during the summer.
The winter ski area has 960 acres, 65 runs, and 1,500ft of vertical (3,600ft to 5,100ft) from easy to expert only terrain, 8 lifts. Skibowl offers day and night skiing, snowboarding, tubing (2 tubing lifts) and activities for children.
Mt. Hood Skibowl's origin dates back to 1928, making it one of the oldest operational resorts in the country. The ski area began as two seperate resorts, Skibowl and Multopor. While Skibowl's name was derived from the natural shape of its upper bowl, Multopor's name came from the combination of Multnomah County, Oregon and Portland. 1928 the famous Jump Hill on Multopor Mountain was developed by Everett Sickler. In 1935 work began on the historic warming hut located between Lower and Upper Bowl, completed in 1937. 1937, the first ropetow waas installed at Skibowl, powered by an automobile engine, the tow was fast and riders held on with custom hooks. If you carried a gallon of gas to the top, you could ski for free. In 1949 George Beutler but the current Multopor Lodge. 1964 the two resorts were joined un the name Multopor Inc. 1966 Skibowl's world-famous night lighting was installed. Kirk Hanna purchased Skibowl in 1987 and expanded night skiing operations and restored the historic warming hut.
