This redwood root burl was salvaged, shaped, and sanded smooth by artist Bruce Johnson. The interactive sculpture is permitted as structurally sound and safe for climbing, and kids of all ages are encouraged to explore it's contours. 

UPROOTED was dedicated to Jean Gerlinger Kirkwood--wife of Robert C. Kirkwood Sr., for whom the new entrance is named--by her children. Jean was a strong advocate for the importance of play in children's development.
