The North/South Trail runs the length of the peninsula between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake and portions of the trail run into Kentucky and Tennessee. Hikers on the North/South Trail experience the full diversity of the land forms and forest types, recreational facilities and historic sites of LBL. Since LBL is managed for a diversity or wildlife habitat, hikers are likely to encounter species such as eagle, deer, and bobcat. Hikers will also encounter fields and forest stands in every stage of development, from mowed fields to old growth. LBL also has many recreation facilities that can be incorporated into the itinerary of the North/South Trail hike/bike. The North/South Trail connects to other popular trails at LBL such as the Canal Loop Trail, Nature Station Trails, and the Fort Henry Trail System.
