Shortly after John Aull purchased this 150-acre tract of land in 1909, he remodeled the small farm cabin on the hilltop and built a pool for swimming in the valley below. John would take a plunge in pool every morning. The pool's cold water is fed to pool from Wiles Creek, whose springs originate north of the property. You may spot the supply pipe near the nearby giant twin-trunked sycamore.
The pool was lined with cement in 1927.
Today, the pool is a spring breeding location of eastern American toads (collecting of tadpoles is not permitted). Along it's perimeter are summer ostrich ferns and Lycoris squamigera (late summer bloom). Fall Colchicum (fall crocus) create fall blooming borders.
