The Rain Forest Interpretive Trail, also known as the Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail and locally known as the 1/2 mile trail, ascends through the Big Tree Grove; one of the most impressive bits of old-growth Douglas-fir remaining in the Pacific Northwest, approximately 500 years old. Overlooking Willaby Gorge, the trail follows Willaby Creek, a typical rainforest stream. Experience stands of ancient large trees and view intepretive signs along the trail that describe aspects of oldgrowth forest ecology.
Benches and Interpretive signs have been placed throughout various points along the trail, where one can relax, learn and take in the wonders of the rain forest. The trail is compacted gravel and first 850 feet is accessible to individuals in wheelchairs.
