Orange Beach Robinson Island

The City of Orange Beach purchased Robinson Island in 2003 to preserve it from development. Today the island is a sanctuary for birds and wildlife and is used by residents and visitors as a park/recreational area.
Robinson Island and Bird Island are favorite summertime destinations for area boaters and sun seekers.
More importantly, the islands offer important habitats for sea birds, and because of that many areas are basically off limits to humans. Robinson Island is an important nesting area for Wading Herons and Terns. Hurricanes in the last years have heavily impacted this area and efforts are underway to restore trees that were destroyed. In the spring of 2009 students from Gulf Shores, High School Botany Class planted 3,050 trees to help in the effort.
We invite you to enjoy the islands but please take note of the following rules:
- No glass of any kind.
- Please bring trash bags and remove them when you go.
- No dogs or pets are allowed on the islands or in the surrounding waters.
- Do not access the interior of Robinson Island or Bird Island due to protected shorebird nesting sites.
- Do not pick the Sea Oats - they are essential to the ecosystem of the islands.
- Be considerate of others - keep the sound down on stereos.
- 'No Motor Zones' are posted on the east side of the islands. This is to protect important grass beds.
- The southern tip of Bird Island is the best area for landing personal watercraft and small boats.
