Just past the benches at this Exploration Site is a short, steep trail and some steps that lead the Rock Creek. This creek connects the Tualatin River to the Refuge's wetlands. If you stand still and focus on the water, you might just spot some swimming critters, like salamander and the orange-colored rough-skinned newt.
FUN FACT: When the Tualatin River has a serious flood (about once every ten years on average), this entire Exploration Site can be underwater. If you're standing at the bottom of the steps, imagine that you'd be underwater at that spot during such a flood.
