Nestled along the driveway are collections of miniature daffodil that explode in Spring, followed by a display of fern leaf peony (Paeonia tenuifolia). These displays are intermingled with mainstays of the garden including hellebores and flowering shrubs.
A magnificent Elizabeth magnolia tree (Magnolia x ‘Elizabeth’) also anchors the beds.
In the book, A Place Called Aullwood, Marie recalled the decision to start a wildflower garden. "John loved to ride horseback. I played golf before I was married but he didn't care much for golf and I didn't care much for horseback riding so we decided we would grow wildflowers."
