JOURNAL ENTRY ONE: A Soggy Story
From the benches atop this beautiful bridge, I feel that much closer to the raindrops dotting my journal. It's another wet one today, but that doesn't seem to slow the many flocks of migrating birds that continue to pour in from the north.
As my boots continue their impersonation of a sponge I find myself beginning to regret the decision to leave my home in Arizona for this assignment, but then I'm reminded it could be worse. It was just the other day one of the locals was telling me about the flood of '84. As I look East from this vantage point, I imagine my swimming skills would have been tested that year, had I been on the ground below this bridge.
Flooding has been part of this landscape for a very long time, which may sound tragic, but really it's why I and the migrating flocks overhead get to enjoy this beautifully soggy place.
