The Dr Fisher Road is a dirt path through the forest, running NW from its start on the eastern end of the State Forest over to Fire Trail 8. It is no longer continuous. It picks up again near the West Tisbury School, crosses the Old County Road and then connects with Old Stage Road.
Dr Fisher was a doctor, prominent citizen and entrepreneur in Edgartown from about 1829-1876. One of his many businesses was a bakery that made hardtack and it is thought that the route was established to transport grain grown and milled in West Tisbury to Edgartown. It was originally finished in 1860 and ran from Edgartown all the way to West Tisbury, through what is now the State Forest. Portions of this trail remain today.
