The Lane Basin Trail is a hidden gem. Starting from the very end of Archangel Road, the trail traverses through alpine tundra and alongside mountain lakes. It is similar to the very popular Reed Lakes Trail. The scenery is nearly as impressive, and Lane Basin Trail has the advantage of being less crowded. However, the trailhead is hard to reach without a high clearance vehicle (Archangel Road becomes rockier and difficult to navigate after the Reed Lakes Parking Lot.) Nearby are several areas popular with rock climbers, Enjoy this glorious slice of Hatcher Pass.
