This extra-steep section of trail descends off the "backside" of Lazy Mountain from the peak, drops around 500' to a saddle (a potentially lovely high-alpine campsite), and climbs back up to a knob on the ridge before descending again into the valley.

This route is part of the Matanuska Peak Challenge, a race held every August.
