The Lazy Moose Trail is gentle ascent on the slopes of Lazy Mountain. Switchbacks lead hikers uphill for three miles through birch and aspen forest. Beautiful views of Matanuska valley, Bodenburg Butte, and Pioneer Peak can be seen on clear days.
The Lazy Moose Trailhead can be found by walking from the trailhead up the Lazy Mountain trail for several minutes until one sees trail signs on the right side.
Lazy Moose reconnects with Lazy Mountain Trail midway up the peak - above the first picnic table. Hikers can ascend to the peak of Lazy Mountain or descend via either trail.
In midsummer, stinging nettles and brush may be present. Also here are the trail's namesake - moose! Take appropriate precautions. In winter, if snow conditions allow, the Lazy Moose trail's south facing slopes can offer a wonderfully sunny snow-shoe hike. In spring, the trail is often muddy - check Mat Su Borough website for trail closures.
