Trailhead access may be restricted.

Due to the closure of certain State and City Parks and other facilities in response to reducing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic virus, access to certain trailheads may be restricted. All Nā Ala Hele Trails remain open, unless otherwise noted.

Trails that are affected: Ala Kahakai Trail, Alakai Swamp Trail, Awaawapuhi Trail, Contour Road, Haeleele Ridge Road, Kaaweiki Ridge Road, Kauhao Ridge Road,Kawaikoi Stream Trail, Ke Ala Loa O Maui/Piilani Trail, Kohua Ridge Trail, Kukui Trail, Makaha Arboretum Road, Makaha Road, Manukā Nature Trail, Milolii Ridge Road, Mohihi-Camp 10 Road, Mohihi-Waialae Trail, Nualolo Cliff Trail, Nualolo Trail, Papaalai Ridge Road, Pihea Trail, Pine Forest Drive, Polihale Ridge Road, Polipoli Trail, Poomau Canyon Vista Trail,Puna Trail, Redwood Trail.

This road passes through Kokee State Park into Nā Pali-Kona and Pu‘u ka Pele Forest Reserves, providing access to Makaha Arboretum, Pine Forest Drive Picnic Area, Koki‘o ke‘oke‘o Forestry Picnic Area, Hunting Unit H and PMRF Military Facility.

Hazardous cliffs at the end of trail. Do not use any trail or access road that is not delineated by name and color and that may also be displayed on these maps. Dog Owners

Hunting may be in progress on or near this hiking trail. Hunting dogs may be off-leash while engaged in the hunt. Hikers must keep their dogs leashed at all times and remove dog waste while on this trail.

Mountain Bikers

Always yield to hikers. Do not slide around corners or slide down the trail. Careless mountain biking damages the trail and causes erosion. If accidents are reported or damage to the trail is extreme, the trail may be closed to mountain bikers. This trail is not an easy mountain bike trail.

Directions

Access this road via Highway 550. The road is located between mile marker 13 and 14 along Highway 550.
