The Pu'u Wa'awa'a Forest Reserve is home to a diverse dry 'ōhi'a forest mixed with many endangered and rare plants. The 'Ōhi'a Trail take you through some of these forested areas where a wide variety of native and exotic birds have found a home. Be sure to check in at the Hiker Check-in Station for trail information.
The 'Ōhi'a Trail follows a very old dozed ranch road. This trail provides a pedestrian alternative to the Vulcanite Road through an 'ōhi'a grove with interpretive examples of endangered and key plant species of the area.
