Trail 1 is our park's most popular trail, leading from the West Parking Lot to the Summit of Mt. Pisgah. From the West Trailhead to the junction with Trail 14 it is maintained as a gravel-surfaced BPA service road. It climbs steeply through some light stands of oaks, up an open hillside prairie past the Trail 3 junction, then through more oak stands. After the Trail 14 junction it climbs a ridgeline through oak savanna and a forested area, narrowing and getting a rockier, before emerging onto flat prairie at the Summit.
Dogs must be kept on leash on the entire trail and horses are only allowed above the junction with Trail 3.
Alternative routes to the Summit from the West Parking Lot include Trails 17 -> 7 -> 3 -> 4 -> 14 -> 1 or Trails 5 -> 56 -> 6; or from the North Parking Lot, Trails 3 -> 4 -> 14; and from the East Parking Lot Trails 2 -> 1, Trails 2 -> 6 -> 46 -> 2 -> 1, or Trails 2 -> 6.
