Trail 5 is one of the longer through trails in the park, running all the way along the west and southwest edges of the park. From the North Parking Lot, the trail extends southward, crossing under the Seavey Way Bridge, then along a paved route to the West Parking Lot. It passes through Mount Pisgah Arboretum as a wide gravel trail and continues southward along the uphill edge of the South Bottomlands, later narrowing and becoming a bare-earth surfaced trail, and finally ending at a gate where it meets Trails 56 and 3 on the east side of the park.
Trail 5 has several commonly used names: north of the bridge it has been called the Coast Fork Trail, on the north end of the Arboretum it is called the Lower Road, through the Arboretum it is called the Meadow Road and on the south end of the Arboretum it is called Quarry Road.
This trail does have very short, steep slopes, but in general it slopes gently and includes many level portions. Its general alignment traverses the bottom of Mt. Pisgah's west and south slopes. It crosses bottomland forests in its northern portions, meadows in the South Bottomlands, and oak savanna toward its southern terminus.
Please note: Dogs must be kept on leash at all times within the Arboretum boundaries.
